Music News: Oops! Amy Winehouse Does New 007 Theme

By John Michael Cassetta • Apr 19th, 2008 • Category: Film, Music, News, Televsion & Film

Just when things were going well for the Bond franchise, we get this, courtesy of Paste magazine:

Amy Winehouse has teamed up again with Mark Ronson, but this time it’s to write and record the theme song for the next James Bond Film, Quantum of Solace. Ronson and Winehouse have retreated to Ronson’s Henley, Oxfordshire home to work on the song.

“They have no idea what they’re going to do. In true Amy fashion, they’re going to busk it. But I’m sure it will be brilliant. The new Bond film is supposed to be really dark so Amy will fit the bill perfectly,” The Sun quoted a source as saying.

Hopefully it’s just a cover of “Live and Let Die,” because that might be the only redeeming option.

The film is out November 7th.

Like pretty much everyone else we know, Big Diction is really excited about Iron Man opening on May 3rd this summer. Due to its popularity, it’s no surprise that the painfully funny folks at The Onion would poke a little fun at the film.

Movies: Journey to the Center of the Earth 3-D Looks Slightly Fun in Three Dimensions, Really Lame in Just Two

By Sam Wunderl • Apr 16th, 2008 • Category: Film, Televsion & Film

I once heard that Brendan Fraser chooses roles not based on what they would do for his career, but whether or not they’d be “fun.” Considering his filmography (The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, Looney Tunes: Back In Action), what he considers fun involves running from/talking to things that will be added in digitally in post-production. In Journey To The Center of the Earth 3-D, he’ll be stretching his acting chops just a bit by running from CGI creatures and then out of the screen towards us…‘cause the movie’s in 3-D. I don’t know if you knew this, but you can view it in three dimensions.

Television: Big Diction Office Spin-Off Predictions, Pt. 2

By Sam Wunderl • Apr 13th, 2008 • Category: Television, Televsion & Film, Uncategorized

Darryl Philbin

There’s been a lot of talk about the new spin-off of The Office lately, so over the next few weeks at Big Diction, we’ll all be picking our favorite Office spin-off stars, and speculating on the show that might develop around them. Now, Sam Wunderl on Craig Robinson.

NBC is giving their most popular sitcom, The Office, a spin-off next February. Let’s go over the facts. Oh wait, I just did. That’s all of them. There’s literally nothing known about the show, including the title (although The Office Spin-Off has nice ring to it). While the premise of the show is something we at Big Diction are clamoring for, what we really want to know is which character will be leaving the Scranton branch to become the lead on the new program.

As Adam said, none of the main characters could possibly leave without destroying the dynamic of the show. And most of the supporting characters are rather one-dimensional, good for a few jokes based on the little information we know about each character (“Creed’s crazy, let’s have him say something that makes no sense.” “Meredith is an alcoholic; let’s have her mention how much she loves alcohol.”). When thinking about the possible characters that could leave the show and carry their own sitcom, there was really only one answer: Darryl Philbin, played by Craig Robinson. Television: Big Diction Office Spin-Off Predictions, Pt. 1

By Adam Cook • Apr 10th, 2008 • Category: Television, Televsion & Film, Uncategorized

There’s been a lot of talk about the new spin-off of The Office lately, so over the next few weeks at Big Diction, we’ll all be picking our favorite Office spin-off stars, and speculating on the show that might develop around them. First up, Adam Cook on Ed Helms.

Can you feel it? It’s that wonderful, special time of year when television studios announce their renewals, drops and future plans. Fantastic for some, fatal for others. NBC recently announced its own plans, stating that 30 Rock, The Office, and (to many people’s surprise) Friday Night Lights were among the survivors. And while Scrubs was dropped (do you really even care anymore?) a nice little addition was made. A spin-off to The Office will be one of the network’s new shows, scheduled to debut after the 2009 Super Bowl and air after The Office during the regular line up. NBC has been very hush-hush about all this, revealing only the shows existence and little else. This opens the door for everyone’s favorite pastime: speculation.

Television: John Adams, Part 4: “Reunion”

Alternate Title: “Abigail Adams’s European Vacation”

The program begins with John waking up to a knock at his door and new information stating that the British have surrendered. Whatever sickness he was suffering from is now gone! I’m sure it was psychosomatic, stemming from an obscene amount of worrying about his nation. Only John Adams, right?! Suddenly, the Dutch are like, “Hey, you know what? That money you wanted earlier? You got it, bud. All America had to do was win a war!” Reeling off of two successes, Adams calls up Abigail and says, “What are you doing later? You wanna come over?”

The reunion of Abigail and John was pretty heartwarming for me. Forget Ray and Debra, it’s these two that have the best relationship on television. They have nothing but love for each other, and each one understands the other completely. Abigail knows her husbands faults, that his ego can sometimes get the best of him, but it’s her advice that helps him get to the position he eventually reaches. She compliments him perfectly, and is just as important to American history as he is. He refers to her as his “dearest friend,” and he truly has complete faith in her suggestions. “No man wants to appear a fool before his wife,” he says, expressing his esteemed opinion of her while also severely underestimating the appeal of Married…With Children.
