Music News: Atlas Sound Offer Free Things I’ll Miss EP Download

By John Michael Cassetta • May 6th, 2008 • Category: Music, News

Here at Big Diction, we’re suckers for free music. So when we heard Atlas Sound were giving away their new EP Things I’ll Miss on their website, we were pretty excited.

Athens, GA based Atlas Sound is essentially Bradford Cox, of the band Deerhunter. This is EP follows the releases of the full length Let the Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel earlier this year. Atlas Sound has always been a sort of controversy for music appreciators - you either love it, or you hate hate it. There are only extremes. Much of this music is the same as older releases, so don’t get all hyped up about big changes, it’s still the music the New York Times Art Beat called “Pleasant guitar noise-clouds.” That’s exactly what you get, along with more atmospheric tones, some bells and a few tape loops or something.

Download the EP here (via mediafire) and decide for yourself.

Music News: Tom Waits Tours, Is Insane

By Mark Topel • May 5th, 2008 • Category: Music, News

Finally! It’s been too long since Mr. Waits graced us with his presence. Okay, well he toured Orphans in 2006, but still! This time around it’s “The Glitter and Doom Tour” and he is playing in Dallas AND Houston.

What’s more is the announcement of “Glitter and Doom” came to us from Big Tom himself. You’re probably thinking, “Don’t ALL tour announcements come from the artists?” Not like this they don’t. I guess you’ll have to watch the “press conference” for yourself. It’s after the jump, along with all the dates.

The upcoming album from the group, titled Narrow Stairs, is set to hit stores May 13th. We hear it’s pretty good, and you can always check out the Daytrotter Sessions while you wait. Oh, and don’t forget about Just Jazzin’

Music News: New Architecture in Helsinki EP and Video

By John Michael Cassetta • Apr 23rd, 2008 • Category: Music, News

Nearly a year after the release of Places Like This, Australian music makers Architecture in Helsinki return with a small dose of their eclectic indie rock via a new EP titled Like It Or Not, from last year’s full length. The EP includes other unreleased B-sides and remixes, and drops May 27th on Polyvinyl.

BUT more importantly: “Like It Or Not” got the royal treatment, meaning a music video and a feature spot on Pitchfork.tv not to long ago. We “stitched” (you’ll see) the video in right after the jump.

Music News: ATP New York Lineup Announced, Pitchfork Blows Wad

By Mark Topel • Apr 23rd, 2008 • Category: Music, News

Oh those folks at Pitchfork Media have never been good about containing their excitement. But seriously, all jokes aside the lineup does look fantastic and it’s not even entirely revealed yet! Most noteworthy of course is headliner My Bloody Valentine who will be making their return to the States after a 16-year hiatus. Other notable acts include Mogwai, Fuck Buttons, Low, and Thee Silver Mount Zion Orchestra. Additionally, Built To Spill and Thurston Moore will be playing Perfect From Now On and Psychic Hearts respectively, which should be “unfuckingbelievable.”
