That picture sums up almost perfectly the sound of New York power-rockers The Mood’s new EP Synaesthesia. The six short songs blow by like a night of heavy partying, with streamers, memories and synthesizers strewn about, fleeting in and out of view. But for all the messy, reckless vibe that drives the songs, The Mood manage to tie it down into neatly wrapped pop songs just screaming to be remixed by some would be amateur DJ.
Marco Argiro, who heads up the group, is a Floridian by birth, and one could certainly draw up some “bright and sunny” descriptions of the album, after all most of the songs conjure up the same blissful happiness of a day at the beach, but other songs (like “Quarter Century Kid”) bring out the band’s post-punk aesthetic [Does post-punk even means anything anymore? -Ed.].
Decide for yourself with a listen to “Masquerade,” track two on Synaesthesia, up for grabs after the jump.
