True story: a few days ago, I thought, “Hmm, you know who has seemingly dropped off the radar? That Jimmy Fallon guy. Thank God, he sure was annoying!.” Cut to a few days later, and Jimmy Fallon is now replacing Conan O’Brien in February 2009. The guy went from being nowhere to being in my face every single weeknight in no time at all!
Fallon, with his penchant for playing guitar, singing songs, and generally being unable to retain his composure in even the lamest Saturday Night Live sketch, is widely considered to be a douchebag. I mean, I was glad when I heard that Conan was replacing Jay Leno, as I’ve never laughed at anything Jay Leno’s said in my entire life, but I never thought this would happen as a result. “Be careful what you wish for,” my mom once said. Now I know exactly what she meant.
To be fair, I haven’t actually seen Jimmy Fallon interview anyone, I’m just relying on his string of stupid SNL characters and bad movies. And let’s not forget Conan’s first few years as a talk show host (as much as we’d like to). I promise to periodically watch Jimmy Fallon’s program before I make any truly rash decisions, but at the moment, all I’m hoping for is a ratings boost for Craig Ferguson (the best talk show host, by far) and a cancellation that breaks The Chevy Chase Show’s fabulous six weeks on air.
